How Syntax Highlighter handles source code, feedback, website data and browser storage.
Your code stays in your browser when you use the editor, preview and export tools. Feedback is different: anything you choose to submit through the support form is sent to the website.
Accounts, messages and subscriptions
You can highlight and export code without creating an account. If you register or sign in, we process the account details and sign-in records needed to provide and protect your account. If you send feedback, your contact details, message and attachments are stored so we can investigate and reply. Newsletter subscriptions store your email address and chosen language; contact us to stop receiving updates. These submissions are separate from the code editor.
When enabled, first-party analytics measures page visits, referral sources, browser and device information, and page performance. Page addresses may include query parameters, so do not put private information in URLs. Security processing can use IP addresses and request information to prevent abuse. These website records are separate from the code in the editor.
Code processing and downloads
Pasted code and locally opened files are processed in your browser. Highlighting settings, JSON configuration, HTML, CSS and PNG exports are generated on your device; the highlighting workflow does not upload your source code. Downloaded files remain under your control. Loading the website, language grammars, themes and other resources still makes network requests.
Hosting and security
Cloudflare hosts the website and helps protect requests. The feedback form uses Cloudflare Turnstile, which processes browser and connection signals to distinguish visitors from automated abuse. Follow the provider’s privacy information below for details.
Who can receive your information
Information submitted to the website may be handled by the people responding to your request and by providers that host data, deliver email or protect the service. We use it to provide the requested service, troubleshoot problems and prevent abuse. Our hosting and security provider is Cloudflare; its infrastructure may process information outside your country. Links to external sites have their own privacy practices. Do not put confidential code, credentials or other people’s personal information in feedback or attachments.
Storage and deletion
Closing the editor or clearing website data does not delete feedback, account records or subscriptions already sent to us. Those records are stored separately from your browser. Retention depends on the purpose of the record, the status of your request and security or legal needs; there is no single deletion period for all data. Account deletion may first deactivate access and does not mean every related record is immediately erased. Ask us about a specific record or deletion request using the contact below.
Your information and contact
You can ask what personal information you have submitted, request a copy or correction, ask for deletion, or ask to stop subscription emails. Use the feedback page or contact email below and identify the account email or request concerned; do not send passwords. We may need to verify that the request concerns your own information. If some records must be kept for security, an unresolved issue or applicable obligations, that may limit what can be deleted. Your rights under applicable law remain unaffected.
