Terms of Service

Terms for using Syntax Highlighter to highlight code and export HTML, CSS and images.

By using this website, you agree to use its tools lawfully and respect the rights of others. Contact us through the feedback page or the contact email below if you have questions.

Using the highlighting tools

The website provides browser-based code highlighting, language and theme selection, line emphasis, focus, added and removed lines, folding, line numbers, links and export settings. It generates inline-styled HTML, HTML with a separate CSS file, Tailwind CSS output and PNG images. It formats code for display; it does not run your code or verify that it is correct or secure.

Using and sharing your exports

You decide where and how to publish exported HTML, CSS or images. Using this tool does not transfer ownership of your source code to us or give you rights to code belonging to someone else. Check licenses, attribution requirements and confidential information before sharing. A website share button shares the website address; it does not publish your editor content. Keep a separate copy of your source and configuration because the editor is not a storage or backup service.

Responsible use

Use only code and other material you are entitled to process. Do not use the website to infringe rights, submit malicious content, bypass access controls or disrupt other users. If you create an account, protect your sign-in credentials and contact us if you suspect unauthorized access.

Accuracy, compatibility and responsibility

Syntax coloring is a presentation aid. It does not validate code, detect vulnerabilities or guarantee that an example will run correctly. Review the result before using it in documentation, teaching or a product. A destination editor, email client, CSS reset or custom Tailwind setup may change or remove formatting and interactive features. Test the exported result in its intended destination. Service interruptions or browser failures may cause unsaved work to be lost; no guarantee of uninterrupted access or fitness for a particular purpose is made. These limits do not exclude any liability or consumer rights that applicable law does not allow to be excluded.

Service changes and contacting us

We may update features or these terms as the service changes. Check this page when deciding whether to continue using the service. If you find an error, believe content infringes your rights, or have a question about these terms, use the feedback page or email below with enough detail for us to investigate. Do not include access credentials or confidential source code in your report.
